He is a graduate of the University of Sydney and had worked in Australia where he completed the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons(Pt I) qualification before furthering his training in Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Dr Saurajen was responsible for the running of the TTSH(Part of National HealthCare Group) Sleep Apnoea Clinic previously. This was then the only combined multi-disciplinary sleep clinic in Singapore and he was instrumental in coordinating specialists from different disciplines and hospitals to treat sleep patients. This collaboration involved not only cross-cluster management but also involved physicians from the private sector. He currently sees over 400 snorers a year.
